We were overjoyed when our contributor, shared her fried bee hoon with stewed pork chop recipe. It’s like reminiscing our younger days, when we always eat this savoury bee hoon at our uncles and aunties as well as friends’ house. It’s a kind of a style or trend in the 80s or 90s or perhaps “kampong spirits” that this mouth-watering dish was being shared and served at almost every hospitable home.

Ingredients

300g cut cai xin
400g rice vermicelli
2 tablespoon oil
2 tablespoons chopped garlic
2 cans of 256g stewed pork chops
250ml water

Instructions

1. Quick rinse rice vermicelli with water.
2. Heat up the wok with oil. Add in garlic and stir-fry till slight brown.
3. Add in 1 can of stewed pork chops (removed the bones if you prefer, otherwise it is alright to fry with it.)
4. Add in bee hoon.
5. Add in the 2nd can of stewed pork chops on top of the bee hoon. Lower the flame.
6. Stir evenly and add in the cai xin stem only.
7. Continue to stir it. Add in 50ml water and cover the wok for about 5 minutes.
8. Add in the cai xin leaves and pour in 200ml water.
9. Continue to stir it uniformly. Cover the wok and let it simmer for 5 minutes in medium flame.
10. Serve.
